Original Greek Coney Sauce Recipe

INGREDIENTS

  2. 1lbground beef, soak in water for 2 hours
  3. 1cupshortening(the 1 cup of shortening is NOT a misprint)
  4. 1mediumonion, diced
  5. 1/3cupchili powder
  6. 2teaspoonspaprika
  7. 1teaspoonblack pepper, coarsely ground
  8. 1teaspoongarlic powder
  9. 1teaspooncumin powder
  10. 1teaspoonallspice
  11. 1teaspoonbasil, dried
  12. 1teaspoonsalt
  13. 1/2teaspoonoregano, dried

DIRECTIONS

  1. PREPARATION:.
  2. To get the right consistency, cover the meat with water and soak, in the fridge, for 2 hours.
  3. Then take a fork and break up any remaining chunks.
  4. Drain the water and go on to browning.
  5. You will have some water while browning but it will slowly steam off.
  6. Brown beef, onion and shortening.
  7. Add remaining ingredients.
  8. Simmer for 2 hours.
  9. You may have to add some water.
