Norwegian Meatballs Recipe

INGREDIENTS

  1. 1lbground beef
  2. 1/4lbground pork
  3. 6tablespoons finely choppedonions (optional)
  4. 1/2cupbreadcrumbs
  5. 1/2cupmilk
  6. 1 beatenegg
  7. 2teaspoonssugar
  8. 1 1/4teaspoonssalt
  9. 1/2teaspoonnutmeg
  10. 1/4teaspoonallspice
  11. 1tablespoonbutter
  12. Gravy

  13. 3tablespoonsflour
  14. 1teaspoonsugar
  15. 1/2teaspoonsalt
  16. 1/4teaspoonpepper
  17. 1cupwater
  18. 1cupheavy whipping cream

DIRECTIONS

  1. Mix ground beef, ground pork, bread crumbs, milk, egg and spices.
  2. Mix well.
  3. Shape into 1 inch balls.
  4. Heat 1 tbs.
  5. butter in pan.
  6. Place meat balls in pan and cook, turning as necessary to completely cook meat balls.
  7. When meatballs are done, take them out of the pan and place them on a plate.
  8. Mix flour, sugar, salt and pepper together.
  9. To remaining drippings in pan, add flour mixture, stir with whisk.
  10. Add water to make a gravy.
  11. Slowly add 1 cup cream, stirring constantly.
  12. Stir until thick.
  13. Do not boil.
  14. Add meatballs to gravy and keep heat low.
  15. Allow flavors to blend.
  16. I would personally serve them with rice as a main course, but I don’t think that would be traditional.
  17. I think my mom used them as appetizers- to go with a Smorgasboard.
